A Prayer to Overcome
the Messes We Have Made

O Lord
what a mess we make of our lives!

We see You
but we believe our illusions
We hear You
but we trust our own voices
We love You
but we cater to the desires of the flesh

O Lord
how do we get out of this mess?

We need forgiveness
but we cast the blame upon others
We need purification
but we resist its hard work and pain
We need holiness
but we are satisfied with worldliness

O Lord
show us the way out of this mess!

We want love
but we don't believe we are loveable
We want hope
but we choose to live in despair
We want faith
but we refuse to rely solely on You

O Lord
what a mess we have made of our lives!

Teach us the ways of Your Spirit
Teach us the ways Your love
Crumble our pride
Humble our hearts
Re-create us O Lord
and we shall be renewed
to love You with all of our heart
to love You with all of our soul
to love You with all of our mind
and to love others
with all the love
that You have for us.

Thank You O Lord,
Amen!
